The young driver was initially pulled over for a routine check by officers from the Regional Directorates in Karnobat.
During the stop, the driver was subjected to a test for narcotics consumption. She was promptly arrested and held for a period of up to 24 hours. Her vehicle was also seized. Additionally, a 18-year-old male passenger was also arrested following a personal search that revealed a vape device containing what was later identified as cannabis-infused liquid, a Schedule I substance under Bulgaria’s drug laws.
This incident comes on the heels of recent reports highlighting the availability of vape devices containing narcotics, such as cannabis, in the region. Nova BG, using a hidden camera, had previously exposed the sale of such devices in Pleven, another Bulgarian city. The continuous presence of such devices in the market and their involvement in road safety incidents raises concerns about the broader issue of drug consumption and driving in Bulgaria.
