EINDHOVEN — A blaze broke out overnight in an asylum center in Eindhoven, leading to the arrest of a suspect on suspicion of arson. The fire, which started on the third floor of the former hotel around 2:50 AM, displaced approximately 170 residents, according to Omroep Brabant.
The security region reported that the fire was confined to one room and quickly brought under control. Authorities are now determining if the residents can return home or need to be temporarily housed elsewhere.
Two individuals at the scene were examined by emergency personnel due to potential smoke inhalation, according to the security region. The suspect arrested by police is reportedly one of those who suffered respiratory exposure during the fire. The police have not specified whether the suspect is a resident of the asylum center.
