Trump Proposes Renaming Gulf of Mexico to ‘Gulf of United States’

In a surprising announcement, President-elect Donald Trump has expressed his desire to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of United States." Speaking to reporters at Mar-a-Lago, Trump stated, "We’re going to change that name to the Gulf of United States, which sounds very well. It covers a lot of territory, the Gulf of United States, a beautiful name, and it’s appropriate."

Trump’s comments come as he continues to press Mexico to help curtail illegal immigration across the U.S.-Mexico border and reiterated his intention to impose tariffs on the country. His suggestion to rename the body of water has sparked immediate political action, with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene pledging to introduce legislation to change the name officially.

"This week, I’ll be introducing legislation ASAP to officially designate our gorgeous body of water as The Gulf of United States," Greene tweeted shortly after Trump’s announcement. The move reflects the swift alignment of Republican lawmakers with Trump’s policy proposals and statements.

In the same press conference, Trump also characterized Mexico as a country controlled by cartels, stating, "Mexico is in trouble, it’s a very dangerous place." This is not the first time Trump has made such assertions about Mexico during his presidency.
