Trump Vows to Rename Gulf of Mexico to ‘Gulf of America‘; Congresswoman Plans Legislative Action
President-elect Donald Trump has announced plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the ‘Gulf of America‘, drawing swift support from at least one high-ranking Republican.
Trump made the declaration during a press conference on Tuesday, stating, "We’re going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘Gulf of America’. It sounds great, and it covers a vast area. What a beautiful name. And it’s very appropriate."
Shortly after Trump’s announcement, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took to social media to pledge her support for the name change and her intent to introduce legislation to make it official.
The Gulf of Mexico is an ocean basin shared by Mexico, the United States, and Cuba. Its current name dates back to the colonial era. No timeline has been provided for when the potential name change might take effect.
