National Indictment: The Forgotten Truth Behind Indonesia‘s Rp 300 Trillion Mining Loss
The Attorney General’s Office clears up the misconception surrounding the Rp 300 trillion state loss, attributed to corruption inPT Timah Tbk’s mining permit area from 2015 to 2022. The Director of Public Relations and Legal Affairs at the Attorney General’s Office, Harli Siregar, sets the record straight, ensuring the public understands that this amount, Rp 300,003,263,938,131.14, is not personally enjoyed by the corrupt officials involved in the tin scandal.
Breaking Down the Loss
The state’s loss can be attributed to several aspects, each with its individual figures:
-
Inefficient Timber Processing Equipment Leasing: Collaboration with five private smelters – PT Refined Bangka Tin, CV Venus Inti Perkasa, PT Sariwiguna Binasentosa, PT Stanindo Inti Perkasa, and PT Tinindo Internusa – led to a loss of Rp 2.28 trillion due to non-compliance with the established procedure. This figure was calculated by deducting PT Timah’s smelter’s cost of goods sold (HPP) from the payments made to these private smelters.
-
Illegal Mining Ore Purchases: The state incurred a loss of Rp 26.6 trillion due to the purchase of illegal tin ore from unauthorized mines.
- Environmental Damage: The most significant loss, totaling Rp 271 trillion, resulted from the environmental damage caused by illegal mining activities. Experts in environmental science have calculated this loss, taking into consideration ecological, environmental, and rehabilitation costs.
Origin and Verification of the Figures
The total state loss of Rp 300 trillion is based on the audit findings from the State Audit Agency (BPKP) and has been substantiated during the PT Timah corruption trial. During the verdict reading, Justice Suparman Nyompa clarified that the colossal state loss was distributed among various convicts and corporations involved in the tin corruption scandal, including:
- Bangka Belitung Provincial Energy and Mineral Resources Office Head (2021-2024) Amir Syahbana: Rp 325,99 million
