Heavy Rain Leads to Flooding in Several Points in West Jakarta
JAKARTA, Kompas.TV — Intense rainfall that hit Jakarta from Wednesday (8/1) evening until Thursday (9/1) morning has caused flooding in several points in West Jakarta. As of 05:00 WIB, three road sections remain submerged.
Mohamad Yohan, the Head of the Data and Information Center (Kapusdatin) of the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), reported that the flooding has affected Jalan Strategi Raya in Kelurahan Joglo, Kebun Jeruk, and Jalan Basoka Raya in Kelurahan Joglo, Kembangan, with water levels reaching 40 centimeters. Meanwhile, Jalan Patra Raya in Kelurahan Duri Kepa, Kebon Jeruk, is submerged with a 10-centimeter water level.
The heavy rain also led to the state of Pintu Air Pulo Gadung being raised to a Waspada (Watch) or Siaga Tiga (Level Three Alert), further contributing to the flooding in some areas of Jakarta.
One Rukun Tetangga (RT) in Kelurahan Sukabumi Selatan, West Jakarta, was also affected by the flooding, with water levels reaching 40 centimeters as of 03:00 WIB. BPBD DKI Jakarta has deployed personnel to monitor the flooding in various areas and is coordinating with relevant agencies such as the Public Works Department and the Army to perform water drainage.
Yohan asserted that "floodwaters are targeted to recede quickly."
Several previously flooded areas, including the aforementioned RT in Sukabumi Selatan and four roads—Jalan Ciledug Raya, Jakarta Selatan; Jalan Srengseng Raya; Jalan Kamal Benda Raya, West Jakarta; and Jalan Kamal Raya, West Jakarta—have begun to see water levels decrease as of 03:00 WIB.
BMKG Warns of Morning Thunderstorms in Jakarta
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a warning for thunderstorms in all DKI Jakarta areas on Thursday (9/1/2025) morning. Heavy rain and gusty winds on Wednesday (8/1) night caused six trees to fall in the capital.
BMKG predicts that thunderstorms will hit Jakarta Barat, Jakarta Pusat, Jakarta Timur, Jakarta Utara, Jakarta Selatan, and Kepulauan Seribu in the morning, with conditions expected to persist until afternoon, except for Kepulauan Seribu, which is forecast to have dense fog.
Given the current weather conditions, residents are advised to remain vigilant and take precautions against thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind.
