U.S. Coast Guard Returns 20 Irregular Migrants to Cuba; Two Suspected of Past Crimes
HAVANA — The U.S. Coast Guard returned 20 Cuban migrants to their homeland today through the port of Orozco, Bahía Honda, in Artemisa province, the Ministry of Interior announced.
Of those returned, nine were men, seven women and four children, mostly hailing from Havana. Two of the migrants were transferred to investigative authorities due to their suspected involvement in past criminal offenses before departing Cuba, the ministry noted.
This operation marks the second migrant return in 2025 and the first by U.S. authorities. Last week, 19 irregular migrants were returned to Cuba from the Bahamas via air. This brings the total number of returned migrants to 39.
Cuba’s authorities remain committed to promoting safe and orderly migration, while raising awareness about the dangers and risks associated with illegal departures from the country, particularly when involving minors.
