ANALYSIS – SADI-S appears to lead to more weight loss compared to the gastric bypass, the reference surgery performed in France, especially in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Obesity is linked to numerous health risks and a reduction in life expectancy. Sometimes, if comprehensive care is insufficient, some patients may turn to bariatric surgery. Around 35,000 procedures are performed annually in France.
While several types of surgery exist, the reference technique in France remains the gastric bypass (or *"gastric bypass"*) in Y. However, another, more recent technique, SADI-S, could prove to be more effective for severe obesity, according to a French study published on August 22 in the British medical journal *The Lancet*. Led by Pr Maud Robert, surgeon at the Integrated Obesity Center (CIO) of the Hospices civils de Lyon, this study shows that SADI-S *"is significantly more effective than the Y-bypass in terms of weight loss, particularly in patients with type 2 diabetes"*, often less receptive to weight loss strategies…
