A large fire broke out at a dairy farm in Wakenstädt near Gadebusch, in the Nordwestmecklenburg district, on Sunday morning. The fire, which began in a straw storage hall, completely destroyed the structure and spread to a neighboring animal feed hall. Firefighters successfully prevented the blaze from reaching an adjacent biogas plant.

The fire was reported at approximately 7:45 AM. Nine volunteer fire departments, comprising around 80 personnel, responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the flames. A significant challenge for firefighters was establishing a water supply, requiring the laying of a three-kilometer-long water line.
Cause of Fire Remains Under Investigation
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations are ongoing. Police estimate the damage at 500,000 Euro, resulting from the destruction of a telescopic loader, an old tractor, and stored straw and feed. Both destroyed halls were equipped with photovoltaic systems.
Earlier in the morning, the rescue control center issued a hazard warning, advising residents to close windows and doors and turn off any air conditioning systems.
