Residents in some areas are experiencing delays in waste and recycling collection following recent snowfall. Efforts to clear a backlog of approximately 16,000 missed bins have been hampered by continued icy conditions and increased waste volumes following the Christmas period.
Challenges to Collection
Crews have faced challenges including wagons filling more quickly and requiring more frequent trips to the tip. Priority was given to collecting black bins – non-recyclable waste – as demand for this service is understood to be high.
Collections are expected to resume a catch-up schedule starting Monday, January 12th, dependent on weather conditions. Residents whose bins were missed this week are advised to leave them out for collection, or to re-present them on Monday, January 12th.
