The University of North Texas track and field team demonstrated significant success over the weekend, competing in two separate events – the New Mexico Team Open and the UW Invite – and achieving a total of five new program records.
Record-Breaking Performances
Sophomore Trezeguet Taylor continued her winning streak, breaking her own program record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.35 seconds at the New Mexico Team Open. The women’s 400-meter race also saw a double record-breaking performance, with Kendahl Tucker initially setting a new benchmark of 53.50 seconds before being surpassed by teammate Aariyana Williams, who now holds the program record at 52.79 seconds.
The women’s 4×400 relay team – comprised of Lailah Hudson, Aariyana Williams, C’Nai Childress, and Kendahl Tucker – further contributed to the team’s success, breaking the program record for the second consecutive meet with a time of 3:41.13, earning a third-place finish.
Distance Runners Excel in Seattle
At the UW Invite, the distance runners also delivered strong results. London Culbreath set a new program record in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 9:22.60. Chase Lehr also improved upon his personal best, breaking his own record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:47.35.
Additionally, Hendrick Hundl secured a win in the 60 hurdles with a time of 7.79, and Claire Spiller achieved a runner-up finish in the women’s triple jump, leaping 12.59 meters.
Looking Ahead
Director of Track and Field Doug Marshall expressed pride in the team’s performance, noting their preparedness despite limited training time. The team is scheduled to compete again on Friday at the Oklahoma Classic in Norman, Oklahoma. It is possible the team will continue to build on this momentum, potentially setting further records and improving their rankings. A strong showing in Oklahoma could position them favorably for upcoming competitions.
