Riga, Latvia – The Latvian defence and security sector celebrated its annual achievements this year, recognizing innovators, exporters, and researchers at the Latvian Defence and Security Industry Annual Awards 2026. The awards, now in their eighth year, highlight a period of dynamic growth across multiple sectors of the Latvian economy.
Recognizing Innovation and Growth
Several companies and institutions were honored for their contributions. Origin Robotics received the Innovation award for the second consecutive year for its autonomous interceptor drone, Blaze, which is currently deployed by the armed forces of both Latvia and Belgium. Perkons Energy was recognized for its export success, having delivered power supply units – compatible with all types of autonomous systems – to over 50 customers across 20 countries.
Edge Autonomy Riga received an award for Growth, following the opening of a new 10,000 m² manufacturing facility in Riga. This expansion nearly doubled the company’s production capacity. Exonicus R&D was honored for its partnership work, specifically its Military Exonicus Trauma Simulator (MilExTS) platform, which was adapted for use by the 3rd Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Researchers from the University of Latvia’s Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technology were also recognized for their contributions to the industry ecosystem, with certificates of recognition planned for Elīna Pajuste, Jānis Karušs, Andrejs Mozers, Reinis Lazda, and Ingus Mitrofanovs. A special jury commendation went to AGM Orthopaedics for its Trust tactical tourniquet.
