Shiffrin Secures Olympic Gold, Rastova and Vlhova Finish Strong
Mikaela Shiffrinová of the United States claimed her third Olympic gold medal, winning the women’s slalom at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The 30-year-old finished with a 1.50-second lead over Switzerland’s Camille Rastová, with Sweden’s Anna Swennová-Larssonová taking bronze (+1.71 seconds).
Slovakia’s Petra Vlhová finished in 20th place, 3.60 seconds behind Shiffrinová, improving her position by nine places from the first run.
Shiffrin’s Dominance Continues
Shiffrinová solidified her leading position from the first run on the Tofane slope. A clean second run, set by Swedish coach Sascha Sorio, secured her victory. Paula Moltzanová of the USA posted the second-fastest time in the second run, improving from 20th after the first run to eighth overall.
Cornelia Öhlundová of Sweden and Germany’s Lena Dürrová both failed to finish their second runs, opening the door for Rastová and Swennová-Larssonová to claim podium positions.
Vlhova’s Return to Form
Vlhová’s participation marked a significant return after recovering from a serious knee injury. Her priority was to re-establish herself among the slalom elite, rather than defending her gold medal from Beijing. Starting 23rd, Vlhová delivered a solid performance, securing a place within the top 30.
Her second run, the 12th fastest, propelled her to a final position of 20th.
Swiss Success at Milano-Cortina 2026
Switzerland emerged as the most successful nation in alpine skiing at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, securing nine medals, including four golds. Franjo von Allmen led the Swiss charge with victories in the downhill, super-G, and team event. Rastová’s slalom bronze added to the Swiss medal tally.
