SAA Baseball: Asher and Ousley Lead the Charge as Season Heats Up
CANTON, Ga. – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) baseball season is gaining momentum, with Centre’s Nolan Asher and Millsaps’ EJ Ousley earning Athlete of the Week honors. Asher secured his second Pitcher of the Week accolade, while Ousley was recognized as the Athlete of the Week, highlighting strong performances across the conference.
Nolan Asher’s Dominant Start
Centre freshman Nolan Asher continues to impress on the mound. In Saturday’s win over Brevard, Asher allowed only two hits over six innings, striking out 10 batters and securing his third victory of the season. Through his first three collegiate starts, he’s amassed an impressive 29 strikeouts while conceding just two runs.
EJ Ousley Powers Millsaps Offense
Millsaps senior shortstop EJ Ousley had a remarkable week at the plate, leading the Majors to victories against Huntingdon, Hardin-Simmons, and North Park. Ousley batted .600 (6-for-10) with a .647 on-base percentage and a .900 slugging percentage, adding a home run, nine RBIs, five runs, three walks, two sacrifice flies, two hit by pitches, and a stolen base to his stat line.
Notable Performances Across the SAA
Beyond the weekly award winners, several other players delivered standout performances. Millsaps sophomore pitcher John Montour showcased his versatility with impressive outings against Huntingdon and North Park, totaling a 2.25 ERA and four strikeouts. Oglethorpe senior Tate Henderson pitched six scoreless innings against Greensboro, leading the Stormy Petrels to a series sweep. Rhodes senior Will May provided crucial relief, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season.
Sewanee sophomore Eli Potter secured a win in relief against Bethany Lutheran, striking out nine batters in 11.1 innings pitched this season. Southwestern freshman Ben Roska earned his first win, allowing four earned runs and five strikeouts in seven innings. Trinity graduate student Will Hellings led the #1 ranked Trinity team to a series win over Babson, striking out a season-high 11 batters in seven innings.
Offensive Standouts Shine
Centre junior Ayden Lohr excelled at the plate, hitting .455 with seven RBIs and four stolen bases. Oglethorpe sophomore Ryan Causey had a standout game against Greensboro, driving in six runs with two home runs. Rhodes freshman Jace Trozzo went 8-for-13 with six RBIs, while Southwestern sophomore Chase Adams went 9-for-17 with three walks and seven RBIs. Trinity sophomore Will Baker batted .400 with three RBIs and a home run.
