US-Israel Strikes on Iran: Putin and Trump Discuss the Escalating Conflict
The “epic fury” war between the US and Israel against Iran continues, with Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump holding a phone conversation on March 9th regarding the Iranian situation. Trump revealed details of the conversation during a press conference.
“We talked about the Ukraine issue, which is just an endless fight,” Trump stated at the press conference.
He added, “There’s a tremendous amount of hatred between President Putin and President Zelenskyy and they seem unable to reach any kind of consensus. But I consider this call was positive, in that regard.”
Trump also disclosed that they discussed the Middle East, with Putin offering assistance. “I said, ‘If you can quickly end the Ukraine war, that would be more helpful.’ But we had a very nice conversation.”
Russian Presidential Aide Ushakov stated on the evening of March 9th that Putin had spoken with Trump by phone at the latter’s request, focusing on the Iranian situation, the Ukrainian situation, and other international issues. Putin reportedly put forward some suggestions for quickly resolving the conflict surrounding Iran through political and diplomatic means.
Putin Proposes Multi-National Dialogue
According to the Kremlin website, the call lasted approximately one hour. Ushakov said that regarding resolving the “conflict in Iran” through political and diplomatic means, Putin “expressed several ideas,” including considering communication involving leaders of Gulf countries, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, and leaders of other nations. Trump reportedly informed Putin of his “assessment of the recent situation in the context of ongoing US-Israeli actions,” and “the two sides had a specific and useful exchange on this topic.”
Ushakov also stated that Trump reiterated his hope for an early ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict to reach a long-term solution to the Ukrainian issue.

This phone call marks the first conversation between US and Russian presidents since the joint US-Israeli large-scale military operation against Iran on February 28th. Putin, during a phone call with Raisi on March 6th, stated that the Russian side’s principle position regarding the conflict was the immediate cessation of military actions, abandoning the use of force to resolve issues in Iran and the Middle East, and a swift return to the track of political and diplomatic solutions.
US Focus on Hormuz Strait and China
Trump also stated at the same White House press conference that he hopes to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. Trump said: “It’s more about them (China) than it is about us (the US).”
Trump added: “We are, in a sense, helping China and other countries, because a large part of their energy comes from the Strait of Hormuz, but we have a good relationship with China, and I’m proud of that.”
