Berlin – A fire in Berlin-Tegel on Friday afternoon resulted in one fatality and injuries to six people, two of whom are in life-threatening condition.
The fire department was alerted to the blaze at the Bottroper Weg at 1:42 PM. A fire broke out in an apartment on the 6th floor of a seven-story building, causing significant smoke to spread throughout the structure.
The building was evacuated, and firefighters immediately began fighting the fire. First responders discovered a lifeless person inside the burning apartment who could not be saved.
“According to current investigations, the deceased is presumably the 63-year-old resident of the apartment,” stated a police spokesperson.
Six Injured in Tegel Fire, Two Critically
“Six people were injured. Two people suffered life-threatening injuries, three were seriously injured, and one person was slightly injured,” said a fire department spokesperson. The injured were transported to hospitals.
The building has been sealed off. After the extinguishing work is completed, the scene will be handed over to the criminal police. A specialist commissioner from the State Criminal Police Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
The Berlin Fire Department was deployed with 90 personnel.

“We are deeply affected. Our thoughts are with the relatives of the deceased person, as well as with all those injured and the residents of the building,” said Malte Bädelt, board member of the responsible housing company Gewobag. He added, “We wish the injured a speedy and full recovery. We assure all those affected of our support.”
According to Gewobag, two residents were already able to leave the hospital. The 6th and 7th floors are currently uninhabitable due to the fire. Residents have been accommodated externally by the housing company.
“As soon as the building is completely released by the investigating authorities, we will immediately begin with further measures to restore the living situation,” said a spokesperson.
