Cal Gymnastics Shines: Newman-Achee and Paulsson Earn All-ACC Honors
The California Golden Bears women’s gymnastics team is celebrating a pair of outstanding athletes as junior Annalise Newman-Achee and freshman Tonya Paulsson have been recognized with All-ACC honors. The awards, announced Tuesday, March 17, 2026, mark a significant achievement for both gymnasts and the Cal program.
Newman-Achee’s All-Around Excellence
Annalise Newman-Achee’s versatility has been a key asset for the Golden Bears this season. Honored as All-ACC in the all-around, she also secured recognition on the balance beam. This marks the first all-conference honors of her collegiate career. Newman-Achee transitioned into an all-around competitor this year, showcasing her skills across all five disciplines and achieving 29 podium finishes, including nine first-place titles.
Her performance on the beam has been particularly strong, with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.900, tying for 27th nationally. Newman-Achee was also recognized as the ACC’s Gymnast of the Week earlier in the season.
Paulsson’s Impactful Freshman Season
Freshman Tonya Paulsson has made an immediate splash in NCAA gymnastics, earning All-ACC honors on both the uneven bars and floor exercise. Her debut routine on bars, scoring a 9.925, set the stage for a remarkable first season. Paulsson currently ranks tied for fifth in the nation on bars with a 9.940 NQS, leading all ACC gymnasts on the event and trailing only UCLA’s Jordan Chiles in the West.
Paulsson’s consistency on floor is also noteworthy, with six routines scoring 9.9 or higher. She leads the Bears on floor with a 9.910 NQS, placing her in a share of 36th nationally. She has earned 19 individual event titles and 29 podium finishes and was named ACC Newcomer of the Week a conference-leading five times this season.
