Oman, officially the Sultanate of Oman, is a country in the southeastern Arabian Peninsula in West Asia. It shares land borders with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Oman’s coastline lies along the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, and the Strait of Hormuz. The country has a strategic location at the mouth of the Persian Gulf and has historically been involved in trade and diplomacy with the West and Asia. As of 2021, the population of Oman is around 5.6 million people, with the capital city being Muscat. The official language is Arabic, with English and Urdu also widely spoken. Oman is an absolute monarchy ruled by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik since January 2020. The country is known for its rich culture, beautiful landscapes, and vast deserts. Tourist attractions include the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the Royal Opera House, and the Wahiba Sands desert. Oman is also a significant producer of oil and natural gas and has diversified its economy in recent years to include industries such as tourism, fishing, and agriculture.
