Taiwan Braces for Third Wave of Rain, Mother’s Day Brings Temporary Relief

The Central Weather Bureau has issued a warning that Taiwan should prepare for a third wave of rain starting next Tuesday, May 12, which will see the rain coverage across the island expand once again. However, Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10, is expected to bring a brief respite from the rain.

Mother’s Day Weather: Temporary Relief

Although Sunday will see some lingering effects of the northeastern monsoon, with temperatures in northern Taiwan feeling cool and some localized rain, the weather is expected to improve in the afternoon. The bureau predicts that the Taipei area will see temperatures rise by as much as 7 degrees Celsius compared to Saturday.

Central Taiwan, however, will remain hot, with temperatures reaching up to 33 degrees Celsius. The bureau advises that the northeastern coast and eastern Taiwan should be wary of prolonged rain on Sunday night and Monday morning.

Next Week’s Weather: A Big Turnaround

Starting Tuesday, the third wave of the Meiyu front and the South China Sea cloud and rain belt will collaborate to bring rain back to Taiwan. The bureau predicts that from Wednesday to Friday, northern, northeastern, and central mountain areas will experience localized short showers, while central plains and southeastern Taiwan may see scattered rain.

The weather will stabilize on Monday, with temperatures ranging from 21 to 28 degrees Celsius in the north and 33 degrees Celsius in the south. However, temperatures will drop on Tuesday due to the arrival of the Meiyu front, with highs in northern Taiwan reaching only 25 to 26 degrees Celsius.
