NDMA Issues Weather Alert for Widespread Rain and Storms Across Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of widespread rain, windstorms and isolated hailstorms affecting several parts of Pakistan from Monday to Friday.

The alert highlights significant weather disruptions across multiple provinces, with varying conditions expected depending on the region.

Regional Forecasts

In Punjab, the Authority indicates that the region is likely to witness rain, dust storms, and isolated hailstorms. Rainfall is specifically expected in the following areas:

Regional Forecasts
Pakistan Authority
  • Islamabad and Rawalpindi
  • Murree, Attock, and Chakwal
  • Lahore, Sialkot, and Kasur
  • Multan and adjoining areas

In Balochistan, the forecast predicts strong winds accompanied by rain and isolated hailstorms for Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Chaman, and Khuzdar. However, the NDMA noted that temperatures are expected to rise in other districts of the province.

The alert also extends to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where rain and thunderstorms may be received in various districts, including:

  • Peshawar, Swat, and Chitral
  • Bannu, Abbottabad, and Mansehra
  • Landi Kotal

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are likely to experience thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms. The affected areas include Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh, and Kotli.

Significance and Potential Impact

The breadth of this alert, covering major urban centers and remote mountainous regions, suggests a period of significant atmospheric instability. The combination of dust storms in the plains and hailstorms in the highlands could lead to localized disruptions in daily activities and travel.

As the forecast period progresses through Friday, residents in the mentioned districts may experience sudden weather shifts. The varying conditions—ranging from rising temperatures in parts of Balochistan to thunderstorms in the north—indicate a complex weather system moving across the country.
