Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday to discuss national politics. The meeting, held at the JUI-F leader’s residence, follows the announcement of a formal electoral alliance between the two parties for the July 27 Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections.
Why the PPP and JUI-F are aligning
The meeting at the residence of Maulana Fazlur Rehman included high-level representation from both parties. Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accompanied Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while the JUI-F delegation featured Engineer Ziaur Rehman and Maulana Asjad Mahmood. According to sources, the leaders used the session to review the prevailing political situation and discuss matters of mutual interest.
This dialogue builds on a recent joint press conference in Islamabad, where both parties confirmed their partnership for the AJK polls. PPP leader Chaudhry Yasin described the agreement as a move to strengthen their electoral prospects. JUI-F Azad Kashmir chief Maulana Saeed Yousaf characterized the alliance as a “historic step,” noting it is the first formal electoral partnership between the two organizations in the region.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two parties will field joint candidates for the LA-14 and LA-23 seats. By consolidating their base in these areas, the parties aim to bolster their standing in the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections.
