The crash occurred Thursday evening at approximately 6:35 p.m., prompting an ongoing investigation into potential factors including speeding or alcohol.
Collision at 114th Street and West Center Road
Emergency responders arrived at the scene near 114th and Center Streets following a crash involving a Subaru and a Chevy Malibu. According to the Omaha Police Department, the collision occurred when a driver was turning in the intersection. Lt. Danny Flynn confirmed that the two children involved, who are believed to be under the age of 10, were passengers in the Subaru and were properly restrained at the time of the impact.

The medical response was extensive, involving multiple emergency crews. Officials reported that two ambulances were dispatched to Children’s Nebraska with patients requiring CPR in progress. Two additional ambulances were dispatched to Bergan Mercy, where the adult drivers involved in the crash were transported with critical injuries. While the investigation into the collision remains in its early stages, Omaha police stated that preliminary indications suggest speeding or alcohol may have been involved.
Recent Traffic Incidents and Emergency Responses
The crash at 114th and West Center Road is one of several recent incidents requiring emergency medical intervention for victims in critical condition. On Saturday, Omaha police investigated a separate crash in the area of 40th and Cuming streets. In that incident, officials reported that one person was transported to the hospital with CPR in progress. Omaha police are still investigating the circumstances of that collision.
Additionally, law enforcement and first responders were called to a crash on Sunday around 2 a.m. involving a vehicle that struck a bridge support structure beneath the West Dodge Bridge overpass on 204th Street. Douglas County Dispatch confirmed that two people were taken to the hospital following the impact. One of those individuals sustained critical injuries, while the other sustained injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The cause of the 204th Street crash remains unclear, and authorities have not determined whether any other vehicles were involved in that incident.
Historical Context of Emergency Procedures
The city’s emergency services have dealt with similar high-acuity medical responses in the past. In a separate incident from December 29, 2008, police identified 19-year-old D’vontae Hutchinson of Omaha as a victim found shot in the parking lot of the Thomas Funeral Home. Following that event, Hutchinson was transported to the Nebraska Medical Center with CPR in progress, though he later died at the hospital. In that case, police investigated the shooting as a homicide and took a person of interest to police headquarters for questioning shortly after the incident occurred.

As of the most recent reports regarding the Thursday evening crash at 114th and West Center Road, the Omaha Police Department maintains that the investigation into the collision is ongoing.
