Battlefield 6 Adds Top Gun Crossover and Two-Seater Jets in Season 4 Update

Battlefield 6 is set to receive a major content expansion as part of its Season 4 update, which introduces a naval warfare system, the return of two-seater jets, and a partnership with Paramount Games Studio for a *Top Gun* crossover. The update, designated 1.4.1.0, is scheduled to launch on July 21 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Season 4: Pacific Front and Naval Warfare

Season 4 is divided into three distinct phases, beginning with “Pacific Front” on July 21. This phase debuts the Tsuru Reef map, described as the largest map in *Battlefield 6* to date. Tsuru Reef features extensive air and sea environments, including aircraft carriers with functional flight decks. A central addition to this season is the introduction of naval combat, supported by a new Dynamic Wave System. According to Battlefield Studios, this system causes boats to move with the water, which affects player aim, sightlines, and movement, adding a layer of tactical complexity to maritime engagements. New naval vehicles arriving this season include the four-seat RCB-90 Patrol Boat and the 7.7m NSW RHIB, a fast transport boat equipped with a mounted machine gun. Phase One also adds three new weapons: the Bren 3 Carbine, the EF88 Assault Rifle, and the VSSM DMR, which can be modified for full-automatic fire.

Top Gun Collaboration and Two-Seater Jets

Phase Two of the season, beginning August 18, brings the *Top Gun* collaboration to the game. This phase features the introduction of the F-18/Super Hornet and the F-14 Tomcat (referred to as the F-74A Seacat in-game). These are the first two-seater jets in the franchise since 2005’s *Battlefield 2*, allowing players to fly with a wingman. The crossover will include three characters voiced by their original actors: Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd (Lewis Pullman), and Adm. Solomon “Warlock” Bates (Charles Parnell). Players can also access *Top Gun*-inspired character skins and cosmetics. The collaboration introduces a new game mode called Carrier Strike, where players must coordinate land, air, and sea forces to destroy an enemy aircraft carrier. Additionally, a *Top Gun*-inspired mission titled “Fighter Sweep” will be available within the *Battlefield REDSEC* free-to-play offering. This mode is described as a jets-only combat experience set on a reworked version of the Tsuru Reef map. Also arriving on August 18 is a reimagining of the classic map Wake Island, which will feature two aircraft carriers and serve as the setting for the Carrier Strike mode. The Desert Tech HTI, identified as the longest-range sniper rifle in the game, will also be added during this phase.

Quality of Life and Final Phase

The third phase of the season, “Tidal Strike,” is scheduled for September 15. Throughout Season 4, Battlefield Studios is implementing several requested quality-of-life updates: * Portal Custom Lobby: A new pre-lobby screen will allow for team and squad assignments, designed to assist with community events and tournaments. * Admin Controls: Tools are being added to grant administrative rights to players within a lobby. * Spectator Mode: This feature will debut in verified Conquest experiences and *Redsec* battle royale, with plans to support additional modes in the future.
