The Hays Arts Council invites the public to view “By Seed & Spirit,” a new exhibition featuring ceramic artist Taylor Wiens and printmaker Justin Miller at the Hays Arts Council Annex Gallery, 1010 Main Street, according to Executive Director Chandler Reich. The exhibition opens Thursday, July 30, and runs through September 5.
Exhibition Highlights Regional Faith and Agriculture
Spanning more than 25 years of Fort Hays State University alumni generations, the featured works connect rural traditions with spiritual themes. Miller earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from FHSU in 2000, while Wiens is completing her Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics in 2026, according to Hays Arts Council materials. Raised on a multi-generational family farm in Nebraska, Wiens utilizes her background to shape ceramic pieces inspired by family history, agricultural traditions, and rural landscapes. Miller works as a western Kansas printmaker and educator, using images of birds, saints, and biblical symbolism to investigate faith, hope, and spiritual discovery.
“By Seed & Spirit” underscores the ongoing relationship between land and faith across the Midwest, according to Hays Arts Council announcements. The displayed pieces trace seasonal transitions, from planting and harvest rhythms to drought and renewal, highlighting the endurance required in rural communities.
