A mass shooting at a newly opened In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, resulted in the deaths of three people and left seven others wounded. The violence began shortly after 2:00 p.m. inside the restaurant before spilling into the parking lot, according to authorities.

The gunman, identified by police as 24-year-old Chad Williams, was observed by witnesses carrying what appeared to be an AR-style rifle as he emerged from the drive-through lane. Investigators believe Williams acted alone, and he was later found dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The FBI is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and has requested that anyone with photos or video of the event submit them through its tip website.
Victim Identified as Stockton Native
Among those killed was 23-year-old Ashley Garibay, a Stockton, California, native who was an employee at the Twin Falls location. Her family shared that working at the restaurant was her first job and that she had traveled to assist with the opening of new stores. Her family noted that she was passionate about serving customers and harbored a dream to one day manage an In-N-Out location.
In a statement, In-N-Out Burger President Lynsi Snyder confirmed the loss of one of the company’s associates. She was taking care of our most important asset — our customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own,
Snyder said.
Relatives and friends took to social media to mourn Garibay, describing her as a kind, adventurous, and driven young woman. Another victim was identified as 59-year-old Cristopher Claunch, who had visited the restaurant for the first time following its July 24 opening.
Bystander Response and Police Actions
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks described the scene as chaotic and credited the actions of two armed bystanders, including 35-year-old Jordan Salinas, with preventing further casualties. Salinas, who was at the restaurant for lunch, reported hearing gunfire and seeing people fleeing. He stated that he reacted automatic

by drawing a semi-automatic pistol from a shoulder holster and returning fire at the gunman.
Salinas, who has been training with firearms since a previous shooting at a mall in Boise, Idaho, said he fired at Williams after witnessing him aim a rifle toward vehicles near the drive-through window. He did not like it when bullets started firing both ways,

Twin Falls County Sheriff Jack Johnson praised the response of the bystanders, stating, These people are true heroes in our community. They diverted the shooter and without a doubt saved many lives.
Aftermath and Medical Status
Following the shooting, seven people were reported injured. According to officials, two of the wounded were treated at a hospital and subsequently discharged, three remained in stable condition, and two were listed in critical condition.
