The Apărătorii Patriei Overpass in Bucharest’s Sector 4 is over 75% structurally complete, according to representatives of the Sector 4 City Hall.
Current Construction Status of Apărătorii Patriei Overpass
Construction crews are currently installing concrete slabs, known as predale, which combine with a metal deck to support the roadway. According to the Sector 4 City Hall, the access ramps are finished and have received their first layer of asphalt. Public lighting poles are also in place, though the LED fixtures have not yet been installed.
Over the last two months, workers mounted the metal deck and vibration-absorbing support devices. The next phase involves pouring the over-concrete slab, followed by the installation of eccentric poles used to tension the stay cables (hobane).
Did you know? The Apărătorii Patriei Overpass is the second overground road bridge executed by Sector 4 as part of the capital’s median circulation ring.
Investment Costs and Technical Specifications
Mayor Daniel Băluță stated the investment totals approximately €20 million, funded entirely through the Sector 4 local budget. The project is being executed by a consortium including Concelex, Omega Star Systems, Alpenside, Luxten, and PAB România.
The infrastructure is designed as a partially cable-stayed bridge with a metal deck. Technical data provided by the administration includes:
- Total Length: 860 meters
- Capacity: 2 lanes in each direction
- Location: Intersection of Șoselei Berceni with Turnu Măgurele and Ion Iriceanu streets
- Funding: ~€20 million (Local Budget)
Intermodal Transport Integration
The project extends beyond vehicle traffic to create a public transport hub. The design includes two tram stations on the overpass. These will be linked to the Apărătorii Patriei metro station and ground-level public transport via elevators and escalators, according to the City Hall.
Pro Tip: For those commuting via the median ring, keep an eye on the installation of the stay cables, as this typically signals the final structural phase before surface finishing.
Strategic Alignment with Bucharest Urban Planning
The Sector 4 City Hall confirmed that this overpass is included in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of the Municipality of Bucharest.
