The initiative, which had already been spotted in stores by shoppers days prior, aims to curb food waste by selling produce that fails cosmetic grading standards while remaining fresh enough for consumption.

According to Lidl România, the newly introduced anti-waste bags feature a mixed assortment of approximately two kilograms of fruits and vegetables. Each bundle carries a fixed price of 5 lei. The supermarket chain confirmed in a press release that the discounted packages are now available in all of its stores nationwide.
To address health and safety concerns, the company stated that the bags are intentionally curated to exclude common allergen produce such as celery and parsnips. This operational safeguard is designed to protect shoppers with specific dietary sensitivities while still clearing out aesthetic surplus inventory from the supply chain.
