According to RiauKepri.com, five historical and cultural heritage sites from Riau have been approved for promotion to National Heritage status following the 5th Plenary Session for the Review and Designation of National Cultural Heritage held from July 29 to 31, 2026. The designations span multiple regencies, adding to the region’s total recognized sites for the year.
Five Riau Sites Approved for National Heritage Status
The five newly approved objects include Balai Kerapatan Tinggi Siak, Istana Siak Asserayah Al-Hasyimiah, the Komet music box, Rumah Adat Bendang Ranah Kenegerian Air Tiris, and Masjid Raja Pauh Ranap Indragiri Hulu, according to RiauKepri.com. Three of these sites are located within Siak Regency. Riaunews.com reported that Siak Regent Dr. Afni Zulkifli called for community support ahead of the final deliberations, which were conducted virtually through Zoom Meeting by the Ministry of Culture’s Directorate General of Cultural Protection and Tradition under an invitation signed by Director of Cultural Heritage Dr. Agus Widiatmoko.
Muhammad Fajri, a Junior Expert Cultural Heritage Preservation Officer at the Riau Provincial Culture Office, stated via RiauKepri.com that the Ministry of Culture is currently drafting the official ministerial decrees for the sites. With these five additions, Riau now has seven objects approved for national-level status in 2026, joining the previously recognized Muara Takus Temple Site and the Jami Air Tiris Mosque. Fajri explained that the elevation in status shifts part of the conservation financial burden from local budgets to the central government, aiding regions amid budget efficiencies while local governments retain ownership and management responsibilities.
