Mahua Moitra stated that she arrived at the Krishnanagar Circuit House at approximately 6:30 pm on Friday, August 14, 2026, and was assigned the room she usually stays in. According to Mahua Moitra, dinner was served in her room at 9:20 pm. At 9:47 pm, she received the first call asking her to vacate the premises, followed by ongoing messages from the administration.
By 10:52 pm, according to social media posts shared by Mahua Moitra, she received a formal order from the Nezarath deputy collector of Nadia. The purported order stated that the circuit house would not be available for service from the evening of August 14, 2026, until further orders, citing annual maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning arrangements. The notice specified that only reservations confirmed prior to August 13, 2026, were exempted from the general purview of the order. Mahua Moitra recorded a video message around 11 pm confirming her refusal to leave.
Crowd Gatherings and Security Concerns
Outside the Krishnanagar Circuit House, a huge crowd gathered and shouted “Jai Shree Ram” late at night. According to Mahua Moitra, the crowd chanted with an intent to intimidate her while the district administration persistently called and messaged her to exit the building. Opposition leaders raised concerns regarding her safety, pointing to the gathering outside the gates.
Mahua Moitra connected the late-night pressure to ongoing security threats. She referenced previous incidents, including an event on July 1 when she faced protests by a mob allegedly comprising Bharatiya Janata Party workers at a local party office in Nadia’s Krishnanagar. During that prior incident, she claimed protestors threw stones and eggs, resulting in injuries. Trinamool Congress leaders have faced similar attacks involving thrown eggs since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in May 2026.

Mahua Moitra defended her refusal to leave by citing direct protections from the judiciary. She stated that the Supreme Court instructed her to face the people on the ground like a freedom fighter, noting that she is not backing down. This referred to apex court observations regarding a petition she filed seeking protection from repeated attacks and egg-pelting targeting Trinamool Congress leaders.
Additionally, Mahua Moitra noted that the Calcutta High Court previously directed the district administration to provide her with protection.
