The Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre will transition to a new operator on Jan. 1, 2027, as the YMCA of Southern Interior BC takes over management following nearly 30 years under Active Living Enterprises, according to the City of West Kelowna.

After nearly three decades under the same management, the Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre is changing hands. According to the City of West Kelowna, the YMCA of Southern Interior BC will officially take over operations starting Jan. 1, 2027. Active Living Enterprises, which previously managed the facility for nearly 30 years, informed the city that they would not seek another operating term.

“We are honoured to have been selected by the City of West Kelowna and recognize the important contributions of those who have built and supported JBMAC over the years,” Allyson Graf, president and CEO of YMCA of Southern Interior BC, stated. Graf added that the organization’s immediate focus is maintaining service continuity and supporting staff and facility users through the handover.

Service Continuity and Community Impact

Local residents can expect seamless operations during the shift in management. According to city officials, everything will remain status quo through the transition, and the existing fall program guide will stay in place without immediate alterations.

“Thank you to Active Living Enterprises for their many years of service in our community running the Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre,” said Patrick Pulak, general manager of operations at the City of West Kelowna. Pulak noted that the facility has long served as a hub where families learned to swim and connected through health and fitness classes.
