According to reports from Bloomberg, early testers found the iPhone Ultra comfortable to carry in a pocket while praising the overall durability of its folding design and hinge mechanism. The device is expected to feature a main internal folding display measuring between 7.7 and 7.8 inches with a 4:3 aspect ratio, paired with an external cover screen ranging from 5.3 to 5.5 inches. When folded, the chassis measures roughly 11 mm thick, slimming down to approximately 4.5 mm when fully opened.

To build the hinge, Apple reportedly relies on a combination of titanium alloy and LiquidMetal materials. Meanwhile, supply chain sources indicate that Samsung Display is actively developing an OLED panel designed to minimize visible creases, meeting Apple’s stringent manufacturing tolerances.

Camera System Criticism and Pricing Concerns

Despite positive marks for hardware ergonomics, the camera arrangement emerged as the most heavily criticized aspect of the device during prototype testing. According to Bloomberg, the foldable handset is equipped with only two rear sensors—a 48-megapixel primary camera and an ultrawide lens—completely omitting a dedicated telephoto lens.

Regarding branding and release schedules, supply chain leaker Instant Digital noted that the moniker “iPhone Ultra” remains unconfirmed by Apple, suggesting “iPhone Fold” as a more accurate description of the form factor, while other industry watchers speculate the “Ultra” label might be saved for a 20th-anniversary device. Barclays analysts project that mass shipments will begin around December 2026 with strictly limited initial inventory, following a tentative global rollout alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September 2026.
