The stage at Kaufmann Concert Hall at 92NY Residence in New York City turned into an intimate venue for a public conversation on Wednesday, September 2, when Jennifer Aniston publicly interviewed her boyfriend, hypnotherapist and life coach Jim Curtis, in front of a full theater of attendees. The event marked the release of Curtis’s new book, The Book of Possibility. Jennifer Aniston was glowing in a black dress with spaghetti straps and an asymmetrical hemline, paired with nude heels and a diamond pendant necklace, wearing her blonde locks straight down and opting for sparkling eyeshadow and a pink lip. Jim Curtis looked laid back in black jeans, a black tee and a green jacket, paired with green sneakers. The pair traded flirty banter at the beginning of the event before diving into Jim’s journey from working on Wall Street to making a name for himself in the wellness space.

Jim Curtis Opens Up About Spinal Lesions and Living Through Partial Paralysis

During the conversation, Curtis discussed his past health woes, detailing a difficult period in his early 20s when doctors discovered lesions on his spinal cord after he began having problems with his mobility, leading to partial paralysis and chronic nerve damage. Jim reached what he called his “ultimate low.” He confessed that he wouldn’t always be truthful when people asked why he walks with a limp. “I would say I got into a motorcycle accident,” Jim said. “I was so shameful that I had a medical condition. [I thought] I was broken in some way. I thought the motorcycle accident was at least a little macho.” Jim went on to share that he was able to overcome those feelings through self-acceptance and self-love, although it was certainly a long journey. “I’m not saying here that if the doctor tells you to do something, you should get up and leave,” Jim told Jennifer and the audience, according to Us Weekly. “What I’m saying is you don’t have to live as the victim. You don’t have to live in your suffering. It can become your power.” He noted that the key to moving beyond a health challenge is to accept it and love it.

Jennifer Aniston Overcomes a Deep Personal Fear on Stage

At the end of the interview, Jim flipped the script on Jennifer and began asking her questions, which the star was taken aback by during a Q&A from fans following their 30-minute conversation. After Jim asked, “What’s one possibility you’re choosing today?” she sweetly replied: “To overcome a very deep, deep fear of public speaking,” a moment which shared insight into their close bond and revealed her willingness to push past her phobia for his sake, noting that Curtis is helping her overcome it by having her moderate the event. Asked how she handles stress, the Friends and The Morning Show star answered, “I think I’m doing really well. Deep breaths and meditation. Truly. It is five deep, deep breaths. Focus. Take a moment.”

Building a Partnership Rooted in Openness and Mutual Acceptance

Jennifer Aniston and Jim Curtis met through mutual friends and were first seen together in July 2025. Curtis, a hypnotherapist and life coach, opened up about his relationship with the Friends star during an August 31 appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, sharing details about how the couple navigate disagreements and how he has been welcomed into Aniston’s close-knit circle of friends more than a year into dating. “Jen and I have been together a year and a half,” Curtis told podcast host Jamie Kern Lima. The Morning Show actress made things Instagram official in November when she honored her love for his birthday with a sweet post, and the couple also attended ELLE’s 2025 Women in Hollywood Celebration together on November 17, 2025, in Los Angeles, California. When Kern Lima asked whether he and Aniston use a particular prayer, Curtis said they do a lot of meditation and a lot of talk, adding that their go-to practices include acceptance and understanding. Curtis joked that because they are still in a honeymoon phase, they don’t necessarily need big sledgehammers to work through problems.
