A woman is facing 15 charges after four homes in Auckland’s Sunnyhills were ransacked while owners holidayed, with police valuing the stolen haul of luxury handbags, jewelry, and a vehicle at more than $200,000, according to authorities. The multi-address burglary spree has resulted in the recovery of extensive property and the arrest of the sole occupant of a tracked vehicle following an operation involving the Police Eagle helicopter.
Police Track Stolen Vehicle to Mount Wellington Following Fordyce Ave Burglary
Authorities were notified on Sunday about a break-in at a Fordyce Ave address located in the eastern Auckland neighborhood, resulting in the theft of an automobile, various high-end purses, and additional belongings. According to Inspector Rod Honan, the home had been targeted sometime between August 28 and 30. “On Monday, police were made aware of the stolen vehicle spotted travelling in the Ōtāhuhu area,” Honan said. “The Police Eagle helicopter was able to quickly track the vehicle to an address in Mount Wellington where the sole occupant was taken into custody.” An inspection of the car revealed a substantial amount of presumed stolen goods, featuring designer purses, a debit card, precious stones, and various personal effects. Authorities also located burglary implements including bolt cutters, gloves, screwdrivers, and other tools, along with a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, according to police.
Warrants Executed Across Auckland Amid Broader Investigation
The investigation team is actively looking into other burglaries in the area earlier in August, particularly in nearby Manor Park, according to Inspector Honan. Advancing the active probe, law enforcement carried out search orders at properties in Bucklands Beach and Mt Eden, alongside a storage unit in Mount Roskill, uncovering multiple relevant objects. The woman in custody has been charged with receiving property, being unlawfully in a building, dangerous driving, and possession of methamphetamine. She has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Manukau District Court on September 17. Honan stated that police are not ruling out further charges or arrests as the investigation continues.
