Austrian authorities have arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of drugging his 39-year-old wife for a year and allowing other men to abuse her, according to reports from Austrian media outlets covered by NOS Nieuws. Emergency services found the victim severely injured in her bed at a home in Marchtrenk, near the city of Linz, during the night of June 25 to 26. According to local media, the couple’s teenage daughter discovered her unconscious mother bleeding in the bedroom.

The 51-year-old husband initially told authorities that his wife died due to “ruwe seks” (rough sex) and claimed he did not notice the blood on her body, per NOS Nieuws. Investigators noted that both the suspect and the victim had high alcohol levels in their blood at the time.
Police did not immediately treat the husband as a suspect. However, authorities arrested him after he exhibited suspicious behavior, which included throwing away a bed and deleting a smartphone application, according to reports.
An autopsy subsequently revealed that the woman suffered internal bleeding caused by physical violence. Following this, detectives discovered search history on the husband’s devices indicating he looked up how to drug someone using substances found around the house just one day before her death.

The suspect’s sister told police that her brother confessed to killing his wife, according to media reports. She stated that he admitted to charging 500 euros to let other men abuse her.
The primary suspect now faces potential life imprisonment for the rape of an incapacitated person resulting in death. Authorities have also arrested a 51-year-old neighbor in connection with the investigation. Police are currently working to determine how many other men were involved.
