Moravská galerie v Brně has curated an exhibition titled Bonsoir, Audrey, showcasing the career of Slovak fashion designer Boris Kráľ. Opening this Friday at the Fashion 2000+ hall in the Uměleckoprůmyslové muzeum, the exhibition runs through January 24, 2027, according to reporting by Moravská galerie and the Czech News Agency (ČTK).
Exhibition Details and Inspiration Behind Bonsoir, Audrey
The retrospective celebrates women, fashion, and craftsmanship through Kráľ’s distinctive style, which draws heavily from Christian Dior’s New Look classicism. Born in Martin, Slovakia, in 1999, the designer finds inspiration in the 1950s and 1960s aesthetic of films like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and style icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Catherine Deneuve, and Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Curator Michaela Kádnerová notes that Kráľ uses exceptional structures, materials like silk, velvet, and mohair, and vibrant color combinations. “His classicizing minimalism is actually striking, opulent, and also immensely chic,” Kádnerová states, adding that the designer’s models inspire women to embrace their curves and feminine silhouettes.
From Zlín Studies to Red Carpet Designs
Kráľ studied at Tomas Bata University in Zlín and built his career primarily in the Czech Republic, creating original fashion mostly for the red carpet. His portfolio includes dressing prominent figures such as Daniela Kolářová, Hana Vagnerová, Magda Vášáryová, and Ewa Farnona. Early in his studies, he earned recognition as Discovery of the Year at the 2019 Czech Grand Design awards, later winning Fashion Designer of the Year four years afterward. Reflecting on the exhibition, Kráľ explains that the display offers a chance to recap his work, potentially closing a chapter or affirming his personal design trajectory.

Alongside garments displayed on a mechanical runway featuring pieces from Salon de Nuit to his June Prague Expo 58 collection, the exhibition features backstage photography by Lena Knappová. Knappová captures the focus, preparation, and intense work preceding runway shows. “The photographs presented as part of the exhibition are a visual document of the creative process and a testimony to our professional cooperation,” Knappová states, noting that the images developed in direct contact with Kráľ’s creative output.
