Cambodia Sets Three AI Priorities at Beijing Summit

Cambodia shared three key principles for global media regarding artificial intelligence at the 7th World Media Summit in Beijing. Ministry of Information Undersecretary of State Prak Thaveak Amida addressed the gathering on Saturday morning, noting that artificial intelligence provides unprecedented capabilities for newsgathering, production, translation, and distribution.

Risks and Verification Challenges in the Intelligent Age

Rapid technological adoption brings critical risks surrounding digital content verification and equitable access to tools. Prak Thaveak Amida stated that while new possibilities emerge for communication, organizations face shared challenges in verifying digital content and ensuring that media entities with varying capacities benefit from progress.

Framework for Responsible Journalism and Capacity Building

To tackle these industry hurdles, Prak Thaveak Amida proposed three priorities: reinforcing ethical journalism, advancing inclusive capacity building, and deepening cross-cultural dialogue. He emphasized that editorial responsibility and human oversight remain essential to preserving public trust despite AI integration.

Appropriate human oversight, careful verification, and respect for source confidentiality are critical, Prak Thaveak Amida said, adding that transparency and prompt corrections reinforce media integrity against digital misinformation.
