Running Blind: Woman Accidentally Crushes Neighbor’s Wall with Electric Car

Imagine if a car suddenly came crashing through your wall while you were watching TV. That’s exactly what happened in the quiet town of Zevenbergen this week, leaving one family shaken but unharmed.

Bert Tielen, a local resident, heard a deafening thud and rushed out to find a neighbor’s wall caved in. "It was a hard, dull blow," he recalled. "We had no idea what it was." His wife quickly called 112 while Bert rushed to help their neighbors.

The culprit? A woman from Willemstad who was attempting to park her electric car. She meant to pick up a plant but misjudged her parking, clipping another car and panicking when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

"Electrical cars are like projectiles now," Bert said, describing the scene. "She just shot against the wall of the opposite house."

Miraculously, both the woman and the neighbors escaped with no serious injuries. The neighbors were home when the car plowed into their wall. "She was watching TV in her chair by the window. She was completely covered in debris," Bert described. The neighbors’ daughter, who was visiting from out of town, was also present but was not harmed.

The family narrowly avoided greater harm when a large piece of glass fell in but missed the woman. They were unable to return home immediately as the incident raised concerns about structural safety. The family had planned to host a New Year’s gathering, which had to be canceled.

"It’s a shame for them," Bert said. "They had plans with family and friends here, and now it can’t go ahead."

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unexpected perils that can happen even in mundane situations like parking a car. Fortunately, everyone involved was fortunate enough to walk away with minor injuries, but the homeowner’s plans for the holiday season have been seriously disrupted.
