Ukraine Welcomes New Ambassadors: China, Saudi Arabia, and Serbia Begin Diplomatic Missions

The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, has seen an influx of new diplomatic representatives as the ambassadors of China, Saudi Arabia, and Serbia officially commence their duties. In a ceremony at the Presidential Office, the envoys presented their credentials to President Volodymyr Zelensky, marking the beginning of their diplomatic missions in Ukraine.

New Ambassadors Arrive in Kyiv

  • China: Ambassador Ma Shenqun, a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in Geneva and Vienna, was appointed as the new Chinese ambassador to Ukraine. Prior to his current role, Ambassador Ma served as the Deputy Director of the Department of Arms Control at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China.

  • Saudi Arabia: Ambassador Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Barak presented his credentials to President Zelensky, taking up the post of Saudi Arabian ambassador to Ukraine.

  • Serbia: Ambassador Andon Sapundzhiev began his diplomatic mission in Kyiv, meeting with President Zelensky to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Zelensky Welcomes New Envoys

President Zelensky warmly welcomed the new ambassadors, expressing his hopes for enhanced cooperation and friendship between Ukraine and their respective countries. The diplomats discussed potential areas of collaboration and the strengthening of bilateral ties during their meetings with the Ukrainian leader.

Recent Diplomatic Changes in Ukraine

In a separate development, President Zelensky signed decrees on December 21, 2023, dismissing several Ukrainian ambassadors from their posts. The changes included:

  • Kenya and Rwanda: Ambassador Andrey Pravednik was relieved of his duties as the Ukrainian ambassador to Kenya and Rwanda.

  • Slovenia: Ambassador Andrey Tarann was dismissed from his post in Ljubljana.

  • Lithuania: Ambassador Petr Beshtu was no longer the Ukrainian ambassador to Lithuania.

  • Japan: Ambassador Sergei Korsunskyi was removed from his position as the Ukrainian ambassador to Japan.

The Ukrainian President’s Office published the relevant decrees on its official website, detailing the changes in the diplomatic corps.
