A donation of 1,082 classroom chairs and 55 televisions was made to the Department of Education (DepEd) Mayoyao District on March 16, 2026, to support education in the remote community.

Strengthening Local Schools

The donation, facilitated through the Municipal Government of Mayoyao, aims to improve classroom environments and provide additional learning tools for teachers and students. Public Schools District Supervisor Isabel M. Chug-e expressed appreciation, noting the items will support more interactive teaching methods.

Did You Know? The project to provide chairs and televisions began with discussions during a Local School Board meeting in August 2025.

The need for additional seating and equipment was identified through consultations with educators, including representatives from the Church’s humanitarian services, Elder Plummer and Sister Plummer. These consultations highlighted the challenges faced in providing resources to this geographically isolated area.

A Community-Driven Effort

Elder Manrico Marcaida emphasized that the donation was a response to identified needs, stating, “Mayoyao was chosen because of real needs—the needs of teachers striving to deliver quality education, and the needs of learners who deserve equal access to modern learning tools despite their location.”

Expert Insight: Targeting aid based on direct community consultation is a best practice in humanitarian work, ensuring resources are allocated where they will have the greatest impact and fostering a sense of ownership and sustainability.

Linda H. Marcaida, a former Municipal Local Government Operations Officer, played a key role in coordinating the initiative and connecting stakeholders. Elder Willy Estrada, Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager, highlighted the importance of understanding the intent behind acts of service.

Municipal Vice Mayor Rudy N. Chilagan, representing Mayor Jimmy B. Padchanan Jr., expressed gratitude for the contribution to the quality of education in Mayoyao.

Collaboration for the Future

The donation underscores the impact of collaboration between the Church, local government, and the education sector in addressing community needs. Supporting education is seen as a way to care for others and build stronger communities.
