Montezuma-Cortez Girls Soccer: Building on a Foundation for Future Success

The Montezuma-Cortez High School girls soccer team is poised for continued growth after a successful 2025 season that saw them earn a home playoff game. Head coach Melody Harris is focused on building upon that foundation, with a roster that’s both young and experienced.

Underclassmen Leading the Charge

A significant portion – almost 75% – of the Panthers’ goals last season came from underclassmen. This core group returns, aiming to challenge for an Intermountain League title this spring. Sophomore Mia Glazner, a versatile attacking player, is back as the team’s leading scorer. Classmate Kyndall Schmitt joins her, returning after a strong basketball season. Emilynn Hill, also a member of the Class of 2028, adds speed to the forward line.

Midfield and Defense: A Blend of Experience and New Talent

The midfield will be anchored by juniors Kaybree Smith and sophomores Jordyn Erautt and Amani Lobato, all of whom gained valuable experience in 2025. The defense features senior Camryn Oliver, the program’s only senior, alongside juniors Ivy Gray and sophomore Sadie Maxwell. Freshman Raya Hall will contribute to the back four, protecting second-year starting goalkeeper Raegan Veach.

Defensive Strength and a Challenging Schedule

The Panthers’ defense was solid in 2025, conceding only 16 goals throughout the season. They hope to replicate that success this year, bolstered by new additions to the roster. A demanding non-league schedule, including matchups against Durango, Grand Junction, and Grand Junction Central, is designed to prepare them for the postseason.

Recent Results and Upcoming Games

M-CHS recently faced Ridgway on March 17, falling 4-2 despite goals from Schmitt and Hill. They will have a rematch on April 25. The team will host Telluride on March 26, followed by a series of road games. League play begins April 3 against Alamosa, the 2025 Intermountain League champion.

Home Field Advantage

The Panthers will host Bayfield on April 7, marking their home league opener. Senior Day is scheduled for April 18, coinciding with their final home game against Pagosa Springs.
