Janne Ståhl, Champion Thrower and Beloved Father, Dies at 77
Daniel Ståhl, 33, is mourning the loss of his father, Janne Ståhl, 77, who passed away after a short illness.
“The family wishes to grieve in peace at this time,” said Daniel Ståhl’s press contact, Niclas Green.
Janne Ståhl was a successful hammer thrower in the 1970s and 80s, achieving five Swedish Team Championships (Lag-SM) golds. He was a member of Spårvägen for 52 years, joining in 1974 and remaining a member for life.
A Legacy in Athletics
Beyond his athletic achievements, Janne Ståhl was known for his strength and character. Spårvägen Friidrottsklubb described him as “big, strong, safe, and fun.” He also worked as a police officer.
Janne’s impact extended beyond his individual accomplishments. He formed a remarkable throwing family with his wife, Taina. Together, they fostered a passion for athletics in their children, Anneli and Daniel.
Continuing the Family Tradition
Anneli Ståhl achieved a personal best of 59.74 meters in the hammer throw in 2013. Daniel Ståhl has become a world-renowned discus thrower, winning Olympic and World Championship titles.
Janne Ståhl actively supported Daniel throughout his career, attending major championships alongside Taina, including the 2019 World Championships in Doha where Daniel won his first world title.
