Czech rock musician David Koller has released his sixth solo album, titled Nebudem se bát. The project consists of 11 new songs, which are currently being mixed by British sound engineer Steve Lyon, who previously worked with Depeche Mode.
Koller and Pelant Refine Album Tracks During Production
The creation of the album was characterized by intense work, including constant rewriting and recording. Koller revealed that even songs already released as singles have undergone recent changes. The title track, “Nebudem se bát,” which features lyrics by Patrik Hartl and music by guitarist Michal Pelant with Koller’s contribution, was being refined even as it was already being performed at concerts.
These revisions were prompted by Pelant’s feeling that an older demo possessed better energy than the version available online for a year. The update process involved several stages:
- Adam Koller reworked the drums.
- Every transition was tuned.
- Vocals, synthesizers, and bass were adjusted.
Koller noted that while he is unsure if listeners will notice the difference, the new version sounds better and was worth the additional cost.
Timeline of the Album’s Development
The origins of the project began two years ago following the release of the album XXIII and a subsequent “best of” collection. Initially, Koller began writing new songs without a specific plan or goal. The first track produced was “Stejný,” credited to Marcell and Jenda Vávra, with Lukáš Chromek also involved at the start.
Other early singles included “Víc než slova,” featuring trumpetist Miroslav Hloucal. It was not until January of this year that Koller decided to compile these individual tracks into a full album. Following that decision, the remaining seven songs were developed over a period where each track took approximately one month to complete, all while Koller and his band maintained an intensive concert schedule.
