A 28-year-old man, identified as Pawan Kumar, allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself in the chest while a cousin recorded a video of him loading a pistol in east Delhi’s Dallupura on Tuesday.
Details of the Incident
Police at Latest Ashok Nagar station were alerted to the incident on Monday after receiving information from Dharamshila Hospital in Vasundhara Enclave regarding a gunshot injury. Pawan Kumar, a resident of Dallupura village, was initially admitted unconscious with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and was later pronounced dead by doctors.
According to police, the video shows Pawan inserting a magazine into a licensed pistol and loading the weapon. Himanshu can be heard advising Pawan on handling the firearm and warning him not to fire it. Despite these warnings, Pawan then placed the pistol against his chest, looked towards the camera, and pulled the trigger.
Investigation Underway
The mobile phone used to record the video, along with the pistol and 10 live cartridges, have been seized by police as evidence. The body has been sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act, at New Ashok Nagar police station.
