A History of Competitive Matchups
The Falcons and Blue Devils have a well-established rivalry in the WIAC Tournament, having met 10 times since 2014. UW-River Falls currently leads the series 6-3-1. This year’s championship game marks the first time the two teams will face off for the title. Last season, the Falcons swept UW-Stout in the first round with scores of 4-1 and 4-0.

The Falcons boast five of the WIAC’s top-seven scorers, including Gavin Middendorf, Ben Portner, Alex Atwill, and Luke Margenau, who also leads the conference in blocked shots with 67.

UW-River Falls ranks 10th nationally and leads the WIAC with 23 power-play goals, achieving a .267 percentage. Alex Atwill is the WIAC leader in assists with 22. Brennan Boynton has been a stalwart in goal, starting in all but one game and averaging 27.6 saves per game.
WIAC Tournament History
UW-River Falls enters the championship game with a 12-20-3 playoff record since the inception of the WIAC Commissioner’s Cup in 2014. They are making their second consecutive appearance in the WIAC Tournament Championship game and fourth in program history. Last year, they fell 2-0 to UW-Eau Claire in the championship.
