Finn.no increases car ad prices by 18 percent

Finn.no will increase the price of car advertisements by 18 percent starting February 1, 2027, adding to a series of substantial price hikes over recent years that have sparked sharp criticism from the Norwegian Car Industry Federation (NBF).

NBF Criticizes 18 Percent Price Hike for Car Ads on Finn.no

The upcoming price increase builds on previous hikes that have strained relations between Norway’s dominant classifieds platform and automotive retailers. In 2024, listing prices jumped by 63 percent, followed by a 15 percent increase in 2026, reported Dagens Næringsliv. Med en markedsandel på rundt 90 prosent av bruktbilannonsene i Norge, mener kritikere at Finn utnytter sin dominerende posisjon.

Stig Morten Nilsen, managing director of the Norwegian Car Industry Federation, stated that the organization has received numerous strong reactions from its member companies regarding the decision. Nilsen accused the platform of exploiting its dominant market position to squeeze revenue from automotive businesses.

We have already received very many strong reactions from our member companies on this, Nilsen told Dagens Næringsliv, adding that dealers are continually forced to pay more without receiving any improvements in the underlying services.

Dealers Point to Cumulative Costs and Limited Alternatives

Jonathan Parr, head of analysis at used car retailer Rebil, joined the criticism against the classification giant’s pricing strategy.

Last year the price increase was 15 percent, and this year it is 18 percent. It seems limitless, Parr told Dagens Næringsliv.

Dealers contend that because Finn controls roughly nine out of ten used car listings in the country, automotive businesses cannot simply abandon the platform without losing access to prospective buyers.

Finn Defends Pricing Structure Through Service Value

Erik Kristiansen, sales director at Finn Motor, rejected the characterization that the company is overcharging its commercial clients. He maintained that the price adjustments reflect ongoing investments in platform technology and verifiable gains in buyer engagement.

We do not recognize ourselves in that description, Kristiansen told Dagens Næringsliv.

Kristiansen explained that the upcoming adjustments are not solely driven by general inflation. According to Finn Motor data, the platform generated a 23 percent increase in inquiries per visitor over the past year, which management points to as evidence of the growing commercial value delivered to advertisers.
