Texas grocery chain H-E-B is expanding into the Dallas suburb of Garland with two new stores planned. A February 24 news release detailed the projects.
New Store Developments
The first project involves revitalizing a vacant shopping center on the northeast corner of Centerville Road and LBJ Freeway. This seven-acre site will turn into North Texas’ fourth Joe V’s Smart Shop, described as an innovative price format focused on offering fresh, high-quality products at low prices.
Joe V’s Smart Shop, a spinoff of H-E-B, currently operates 14 stores in North Texas and Houston. Prior locations opened in Dallas in June 2024, in far east Dallas in March 2025 and in Irving in November 2025. Products available include fresh produce, organic selections, in-store cut meats, and made-to-order items like tortillas, breads, and sushi.
The second project involves H-E-B’s intent to develop an H-E-B store on a 21-acre site between Crist Road and Firewheel Parkway off President George Bush Turnpike. However, the purchase of this property is not yet final.
The Garland locations will join existing H-E-B stores in Forney, Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Melissa, Prosper, Rockwall, Fort Worth/Alliance, and Mansfield. Additional stores are planned for Irving, Denton, Dallas, Carrollton, and the Mid-Cities.
If developed similarly to other H-E-B locations, the Garland store could include a pharmacy with drive-thru, curbside and home delivery services, a primary care clinic, and a True Texas BBQ restaurant with drive-thru.
