The Honor Magic 9 Pro Max smartphone launched today in China, featuring a camera system developed in partnership with professional cinema camera manufacturer ARRI and retailing for approximately $970 USD, according to Mashable and Yahoo.
Honor Partners With ARRI for Mobile Cinema System
Marking its 10th anniversary as a Huawei subsidiary, Honor teamed up with ARRI to bring professional motion-picture image science and camera expertise to mobile hardware and software. The device includes 14 ARRI filter presets alongside support for 4K 60fps “Cinema Grade” recording, 10-bit color depth, and ARRI Wide Gamut 3. Phone Arena reported that the extensive design spans lenses extending the entire width of the phone’s camera bump.
Hardware Specifications Compared to Apple and Samsung
The Honor Magic 9 Pro Max houses a 200 MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and an f/1.57 aperture, a 200 MP telephoto camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor and an f/2.6 aperture, and a 50 MP ultra-wide lens with an f/2.0 aperture. It also includes a 55 MP selfie camera. By comparison, all three rear cameras on the iPhone 18 Pro Max top out at 48 MP. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 200 MP main camera, though camera specifications differ beyond megapixel counts.
For stabilization, the main camera features optical image stabilization rated to the Camera & Imaging Products Association’s CIPA 8.0 standard, alongside 3-degree gimbal-level stabilization that allows the camera to move and tilt by up to 3 degrees. Honor also claims the device is the first smartphone equipped with a “cinema-grade” directional microphone capable of capturing sound from up to 20 meters away while utilizing audio recording presets to reduce background noise.
