Swedish TV4 personality Jasmine Kara (37) recently underwent surgery in the US after battling endometriosis since she was 11 years old.

The artist, who broke through in 2010 and has participated in programs such as “Let’s Dance” and “Melodifestivalen,” shares her long-term battle with the chronic condition on Instagram.

It started when I was 11 years old. I went in and out of the emergency room in Sweden almost every month, my dad had to facilitate me up from the floor and my mom held my hair when I had to vomit from the pain”, she writes.

Kara says she learned to live with the pain and even stood on stage while in immense pain. But in the past year, the pain has become too much.

What is endometriosis:

  • Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside the uterus – often in the pelvis, on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or peritoneum
  • Common symptoms of endometriosis can be heavy menstrual pain and pelvic pain, as well as pain during intercourse. Some also experience pain during ovulation, urination or bowel movements, as well as bloating, nausea and fatigue. For some, endometriosis can also lead to difficulty getting pregnant.

After several attempts to acquire help in Sweden without success, she went to the US where she finally received the correct diagnosis and treatment:

I went to the emergency room in Sweden four times and had several doctor’s appointments, but was laughed at and told that this was something chronic you just had to live with, IBS or stress”, she continues.

In Recent York, she met a specialist who confirmed the endometriosis diagnosis. She has now undergone surgery and finally sees light at the end of the tunnel.

For the first time in my life, I have hope. Hope to be able to become a human again, and maybe even live a life completely without pain related to this”, she concludes.
