From Statler Brothers Standout to Solo Success
For over 21 years, Jimmy Fortune was a cornerstone of the legendary Statler Brothers, joining them in 1982 after initially filling in for Lew DeWitt. He quickly became an integral part of the group’s sound, writing hits like “Elizabeth,” “My Only Love,” “Too Much On My Heart,” and “More Than A Name On A Wall.”
Fortune’s songwriting prowess earned him recognition from both the Gospel Music Association and the International Bluegrass Music Association. The Statler Brothers, with Jimmy Fortune, were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. He was also individually inducted into the Virginia Musical Hall of Fame in 2018.
