John Needham, a resident of Feenone, Carrowniskey, Louisburgh, County Mayo, passed away peacefully on February 15th, 2026, at the age of 99. He was surrounded by family and received care from the staff at Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home.
A Life Remembered
Born to the late Kate & Michael Needham, John was predeceased by his infant son, Seamus, and siblings Mary Renwick, Nora Staunton, Theresa Foley, Paddy Needham, Eugene Needham, Austin Needham, and Michael-Joe Needham. He is also predeceased by his son-in-law, Christy Gallagher, and daughter-in-law, Madeline Lavelle.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen (née Mc Nally), and his children: Michael-Joe (Ann), Mary O’Donnell (Peter), Kathleen Sweeney (Tom), Thomas (Cheryl), Sean, Paraic (Laurel), Peggy Gallagher, Eugene (Margaret), Eileen Keogh (Alan), and Beatrice Prendergast (John). He leaves behind a legacy of thirty-one grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members.
Funeral Arrangements
John will lie in repose at Sweeney’s Funeral Home, Louisburgh, on Tuesday, February 17th, from 5:00pm, with Vigil Prayers concluding at 8:00pm. The funeral will arrive at the Church of the Holy Family, Killeen, on Wednesday, February 18th, at 11:30am for a 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Louisburgh Meals on Wheels c/o Sweeney Funeral Directors, Louisburgh. Condolences can be left for the family online. The Mass of Christian Burial will be live-streamed via the Killeen webcam at www.louisburghparish.ie. The family has requested privacy at their home.
